I’ve built up skills across product, engineering, design and program management so that not only am I leading the team to do the right things but also do them in the right way.
I Iove being in the creation process and seeing my products shipped into the hands of people.
Product
As a product leader, the three things I believe are important when driving product: Vision, Research and Prioritization.
-
Building out a tangible vision for a product with waypoints guiding us along allows the team to be aligned and stay aligned and not waste time doing this that don’t take us to our goal.
-
Having a vision is great but we need to always be able to justify and ground ourselves with data, especially if it tells to go in a different direction.
-
Lots requests or distractions come up during development, some good, some not so good. But by filtering out the noise the team will stay focused achieve the vision set forth.
Engineering
As an engineering leader, I lead my teams to balance out speed / agility, experimentation and quality.
-
By building an agile engineering team enables them to adapt to the changes in product direction and technologies.
-
Inspiring the team to try new ideas, methods and technologies, even if it doesn’t work out, will keep the product innovative but also lead to a better sense of ownership and engagement for the team.
-
It would all be for not if everything was built on shaky foundations. Not only will it slow down development but provide a terrible customer experience. Therefore, I ensuring measurable quality of the product.
Design
I believe Design is an equally important part of the product development process. Through using Design Thinking, interviewing customers, applying usability heuristics etc…makes effective use of development time to create delightful experiences for our customers.
-
Through it’s techniques it brings together all disciplines to work together & understand the customer needs.
-
Allows us to really observe the customer and understand them and their jobs to be done.
-
Just like engineering, building prototypes to experiment with guide us along the way.
